HDPE Film Blowing Machine — Shopping & T-Shirt Bag Film
An HDPE film blowing machine extrudes high-density polyethylene into stiff, crackly, highly printable film — the classic material for shopping bags and T-shirt bags. HDPE runs at higher melt temperature and faster take-off speed than LDPE, producing thin film down to 0.008 mm. E-SHION monolayer and mini lines process HDPE from 100 mm mini width up to 1,200 mm folded, and ABA lines co-extrude an HDPE skin with a recycled or filled core for cost-sensitive bag production.
Why HDPE film
HDPE film is stiff and springy with a characteristic 'crackle', excellent printability and very low cost per bag — which makes it the default material for retail shopping bags, T-shirt bags and garment bags.
Typical HDPE film products: T-shirt and vest bags, shopping and grocery bags, garment bags, thin garbage bags.
- Stiff, springy film that feeds cleanly through bag making machines
- Excellent printability for retail branding
- Down to 0.008 mm film — very low material cost per bag
- Good tensile strength in the machine direction
HDPE vs LDPE vs LLDPE — where does HDPE fit?
- For soft, easy-sealing film, compare with the LDPE film blowing machine guide.
- For tough, puncture-resistant film, see the LLDPE film blowing machine guide.

Processing HDPE on a blown film line
HDPE behaves differently from LDPE/LLDPE in the die and the tower:
A machine that runs HDPE well differs in die geometry and cooling from an LDPE-optimized line — tell us the primary material when you request a quote and E-SHION configures the die and tower accordingly. Actual processing temperature and die settings depend on the HDPE grade, melt flow index, film thickness and machine configuration.
- Higher melt temperature, roughly 200–230 °C
- Faster take-off — the bubble runs hot and fast with a visible neck
- Narrower blow-up ratio window, typically 2:1 to 2.5:1
- Film thickness commonly 0.008–0.03 mm for shopping bags
- Standard barrier screw; die gap and air ring set for HDPE flow
Recommended machines for HDPE film
Most HDPE bag production starts on a mini or monolayer line — here is how E-SHION matches machines to HDPE film:
- Mini — the entry line for HDPE shopping and T-shirt bags up to 50 kg/h: small footprint, low investment, processes HDPE/LDPE/LLDPE
- Monolayer — the standard for HDPE bag film up to 120 kg/h: shopping bags, garment bags and thin garbage bags at full production speed

Frequently asked questions
What is an HDPE film blowing machine?
A blown film extrusion line configured for high-density polyethylene — it produces stiff, crackly film down to 0.008 mm used mainly for shopping bags, T-shirt bags and garment bags.
HDPE vs LDPE film — what is the difference?
HDPE film is stiffer, thinner per bag and cheaper per unit area, but less soft and less transparent. LDPE film is soft, clear and tougher-feeling. Shopping bags use HDPE; carrier bags that must feel premium often use LDPE or a blend.
Can one machine switch between HDPE and LDPE?
E-SHION monolayer machines process both HDPE and LDPE, but the die gap, temperature profile and air ring settings differ. If you switch materials daily, confirm the change-over procedure when ordering — some buyers keep dedicated lines per material.
How thin can HDPE film be blown?
E-SHION HDPE-capable lines can run film from 0.008 mm upward depending on grade and machine configuration; typical shopping bag film is 0.008–0.03 mm.
How much does an HDPE film blowing machine cost?
Indicative factory-direct ranges run from about $12K to $150K depending on film width, output, layer count and automation — request a quote for your exact configuration. Indicative ranges by machine type — Monolayer: $18,000 – $45,000; IBC 3 Layer: $60,000 – $150,000; ABA: $35,000 – $90,000; 3 Layer Air Bubble: $25,000 – $65,000; PP: $18,000 – $45,000; Mini: $12,000 – $28,000.
