3 Layer Film Blowing Machine — Co-Extrusion Lines
A 3-layer film blowing machine co-extrudes three film layers in one die head — the standard configuration for barrier film, high-clarity packaging film and heavy-duty bag film. E-SHION supplies 3-layer lines in ABA (two-extruder) and IBC (internal bubble cooling) configurations up to 2,600 mm folded width and 500 kg/h output.
Why three layers?
Three co-extruded layers replace what would otherwise need lamination: a barrier or sealing layer on the inside, a core that carries most of the strength and cost, and a print or gloss layer outside.
The result is stronger, thinner, printable film at lower material cost than monolayer film of the same strength — which is why 3-layer lines are the workhorse of food packaging, heavy-duty bags and agricultural film production.
Three-layer configurations
The number of extruders decides the configuration:
- ABA — 2 extruders, 3 layers (outer layers share one material): economical for most bag and packaging film
- ABC — 3 extruders, 3 layers (every layer separate): for three different materials
- IBC — internal bubble cooling on 2- or 3-extruder lines: higher output and wider film up to 2,600 mm folded
Recommended machine
For 3-layer film production E-SHION's IBC 3-layer line is the flagship configuration.
Typical 3-layer products
- Food packaging film — high clarity, good sealing
- Heavy-duty and bulk bags — impact strength
- Agricultural film — greenhouse and mulch
- Lamination and printing base film

Frequently asked questions
What is a 3-layer film blowing machine?
A film blowing machine that co-extrudes three film layers through one die head, usually in an ABA (2-extruder) or ABC (3-extruder) arrangement, adding strength, barrier and printability without lamination.
What is the difference between 3-layer and 5-layer film blowing machines?
Both co-extrude multiple layers in one bubble. 3-layer covers most bag, packaging and agricultural films; 5-layer adds extra barrier or special layers for demanding food and high-barrier applications, at higher machine cost.
How wide and fast can a 3-layer line run?
E-SHION 3-layer IBC lines reach 2,600 mm folded width and 500 kg/h output with film thickness 0.025–0.15 mm.
How much does a 3-layer film blowing machine cost?
Indicative factory-direct pricing for E-SHION 3-layer lines starts around $60,000 and rises with width, output and automation — request a quote for your configuration.
