Closed-Loop Recycling Lines

Film scrap and edge trim back to reusable pellets in the same production hall — cutting material cost and waste.

How the line works

Producing for Closed-Loop Recycling Lines — the short answer

The closed loop is three machines in one hall: the blown film line makes scrap (edge trim, start-up lumps), the granulating line turns it back into pellets at 150–500 kg/h, and the feeder blends 10–30% reclaimed material back into non-food film. The material is bought once.

Payback is usually the fastest in the plant because it is driven by resin price, not by sales volume: every kilogram of scrap re-granulated is a kilogram of virgin resin not purchased.

Frequently asked questions

01

What machines do I need for closed-loop recycling?

A plastic granulating machine sized to your scrap rate (throughput 150–500 kg/h), plus a feeder or blender that doses reclaimed pellets back into the film line’s core layer.

02

How much reclaimed pellet can I blend back?

Typically 10–30% into non-food film structures — carried in the core layer of an ABA/ABC film so the sealing skins stay virgin.

03

What scrap can be re-granulated?

Edge trim, start-up lumps and off-spec rolls from PE and PP film lines — clean, single-polymer scrap is ideal; printed or laminated material needs the wash-and-pelletize system.

04

Is recycling equipment worth it for a small plant?

Usually yes: a film line running 200 kg/h generates 20–30 kg/h of scrap. At resin prices, a granulating line from $8,000–$30,000 typically pays back in under a year of single-shift running.
