Producing for Biodegradable Film & Bags — the short answer
Compostable bags run on modified blown film lines: PLA/PBAT blends behave differently from PE — lower melt strength, narrower temperature window, moisture sensitivity — so the extruder, die and air ring are configured for them, and resin handling includes drying.
The bag making side is closer to standard: sealing bars and crimp settings are tuned to the lower sealing temperature of compostable film, and thickness typically sits at 0.015–0.05 mm.

Can a standard PE line run compostable film?
Not well — PLA/PBAT blends need a modified temperature profile, gentler cooling and moisture-controlled resin handling. E-SHION configures the line for compostable blends at order stage.
What gauge is compostable bag film?
Typically 0.015–0.05 mm for retail and collection bags — thicker than HDPE vest bags because the blend’s melt strength, not stiffness, sets the floor.
Which certificates apply to compostable bags?
Certification of the film is by standard (e.g. EN 13432 / ASTM D6400) through accredited bodies; the machine’s role is to hold the process window so the certified blend keeps its properties.
Is one line enough for both compostable and PE film?
A line configured for compostable blends can switch back to PE with a purge and recipe change, but dedicated lines are recommended when volumes are significant on both sides.
